Tinnitus Symptoms

March 3, 2009 by Stacy42

Tinnitus is the feeling of listening a continuous sound even when there is no external sound. A disorder that may indicate a serious underlying problem or it can just be an annoyance for the sufferer is Tinnitus. Some people with tinnitus find relief from various treatments, while others must deal with the internal noise their entire lives.

Tinnitus can manifest in different ways for different people and symptoms can include hearing different noises such as a ringing, buzzing, clicking, roaring, hissing, whistling, whooshing, or pulsing. Some people suffer from tinnitus occasionally or temporarily, such as after ear trauma or exposure to a loud noise, while others have a constant problem.

Tinnitus is divided into two types according to its characteristics: subjective and objective tinnitus with different syptomology. Subjective tinnitus is tinnitus that only the sufferer can hear. It is by far the most common type of tinnitus and is the presence of a noise that can not be heard by a physician upon examination. The noise experienced by the sufferer can vary but it is annoying and disruptive to daily life. Subjective tinnitus can be caused by damage to parts of the middle or inner ear, the cochlear, auditory nerves, or the part of the brain that interprets the nerve impulses from sound waves.

A less common type of tinnitus is objective tinnitus which can be heard by a physician during an examination. Such kind of tinnitus is commonly a result of vascular or blood vessel problems, problems in adjacent muscles to the ear canals or damage of the ear bones. This type of tinnitus is usually characterized by a sound that mimics the pulse or heartbeat.

The

noise which is the classic symptom of tinnitus can vary in pitch and volume and can be present in one or both ears. Because the noise can be hard to deal with and the sufferer can have a hard time functioning normally because of it,severe cases of tinnitus can affect a person’s life. Tinnitus symptoms can come and go or they may be constant and treatments are not always effective.

The data provided is for research purposes only. No treatment is implied. With all health problems it is best to consult a doctor before taking any medical advice.
