Dear ,
Please forgive my using this means to reach you but I can’t think of any other way of letting you know of this urgent matter at hand. I acted as a personal attorney to (late) Mr. E.Malherbe, who dwelt and worked here for more than twenty years as a major contractor and businessman.
On the 21st of October 2005, he and his wife and only daughter were involved in an automobile accident while visiting a neighboring country on vacation . They were buried two weeks after and I have exhausted all means of reaching who may have been related to them. This has been more difficult because no mention was made of any relative while he was alive.
To the best of my knowledge, before his death, he had an investment deposit totaling more than Twenty Million Five hundred thousand United States Dollars(US$20.500.000.00) with the major bank here and now they have asked me to provide a next of kin if there is, or the estate will then revert to the government and so it would be lost.
My proposal is that you allow to be presented for this role so that documentation can be processed and payment made in your favour. This is a project which will see us partner to realise. I would be willing for us to discuss terms of participation in order to protect our various interests.
I want to assure you right away that I have positioned this deal to not last for more than two weeks. I shall be willing to discuss futher on this if replied back or send to me your direct telephone number so we can discuss on the type of confidential atmosphere which this matter requires.
All further communictaion regarding the above matter should be directed via my office email address as indicated
Thanks for your prompt response.

Of course watching the instruments doesn't always guarantee that what you are seeing is what you are getting.
On one night departure, the tugs pulled the ship I was piloting off the wharf and I subsequently gave the order for “Slow Ahead”. The telegraph went ahead and the tachometer duly showed the ahead movement. I awaited events. It was with some shock that I realised that the ship was starting to go backwards rather than forwards. A quick visit to the bridge wing clearly indicated from the propellor wash that we were going astern. It turned out that some electrical faults in the telegraph system had been fixed in port. The wires had been disconnected and then, unfortunately, reconnected back to front as it were. One wonders to what extent the bridge equipment had been tested prior to departure.
And then there was the case of the engine that kept on going ahead despite multiple engine telegraph attempts to stop it. It finally stopped in about 1 minute after a direct telephone call from the Master to the Engine Room which, heavily laden with pejoratives, left little doubt as to the Duty Engineer's ancestry or his prospective inability to father children. It turned out that the out-going Chief Engineer had taken a bit out of the system but not told the incoming Chief Engineer. The result of this oversight was that the engine had a tendency to stop – something noticed by an ever-helpful Duty Engineer. This Engineer therefore took it upon himself to keep the engine going whenever it looked like stopping – that is, when the telegraphs was placed to stop by the bridge, and the engine tried to stop in sympathy with the command, the Engineer was somewhere else in the Engine Room busily pumping fuel manually into the system to keep the engine going.
