Botox
January 28, 2010 by Stacy42 · Leave a Comment
Botox is inexpensive and minimally invasive treatments that can help almost anyone look years younger. Therefore, it’s no wonder it’s continually more and more popular. Botox is safe. It has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Millions of men and women have Botox cosmetic treatments all over the world making it one of the top cosmetic procedures performed for the temporary removal of facial lines.
It is a strange twist of medical science that a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum should get used as fountain of youth. That is what Botox is – a toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. It’s important that you not overdo your use of Botox. Some people may also develop antibodies to the toxin.
Botox is nonsurgical. There is no blood gushing during a Botox treatment. Botox injections basically relax the muscles of the face. A treatment normally takes 2 to 10 minutes only. When the muscle is relaxed, the lines are less noticeable. Once injected into the skin, an improvement can be seen within days and your youthful face may last up to 4 months. However, the results tend to vary from individual to individual depending on their living habits and medical profile. Botox can result in a smoother look for up to four months.
Of course, like all medical procedures, one also has to check if the body is capable of receiving such treatments. Botox may be something hypoallergenic to millions of people, but it may not be for you. Thus, if you are considering Botox cosmetic injections, you should see a qualified plastic surgeon or dermatologist.
The Critical Role of Glutathione in Every Cell of Your Body
January 10, 2010 by Stacy42 · 6 Comments
Most physicians are familiar with glutathione or l-glutathione in regards to its role in detoxifying Tylenol overdoses, and more recently its importance in the maintenance of T-cell competence in HIV.
The detrimental effects of “reduced” glutathione production in one’s cells is being linked to a striking array of illnesses. Boosting intracellular glutathione levels is proving to have a dramitic positive effect on natural healing and health maintenance.
Antioxidation
Glutathione is the major naturally occurring antioxidant present in our cells. Other antioxidants introduced through our diet such as vitamins C and E actually depend on GSH for their function and recycling within the cell.
The field of free-radical biology is exploding and the list of disease states linked to oxidative stress is rapidly growing. In the past 3 years over 38,000 scientific papers have been released dealing with glutathione and its effect on a significant number of these diseases.
Toxicology
Glutathione plays a key role in detoxifying environmental toxins, including heavy metals, fuel exhaust, and many by-products of cigarette smoke.
Immune Modulation
Lymphocytes, in particular T-cell subsets, have a high demand for glutathione in their function and replication. Reduced glutathione levels caused by an acute or chronic inflammatory process, aging or infection will lead to a poor immune response.
What is paradoxical is that as much as the body needs to have sufficient levels of glutathione, it is very difficult for the body to replace GSH through typical diets and supplementation when levels are low.
Glutathione vitamins, pills or supplements are ineffective and a waste of money since they are broken down before reaching the blood stream.
The pharmaceuticals currently used such as NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine) have effectively helped critical situations such as Tylenol overdose cases and cystic fibrosis, however, they have the disadvantage of having side effects and results are short lived.
An Effective Neutraceutical
The good news is, Dr. Gustavo Bounous and a research team at Montreal Hospital, the teaching hospital of McGill University in Montreal, Canada, developed a patented natural dietary supplement. Their many years of research led to a break-through discovery of a milk serum protein isolate. The resulting product is known as Immunocal®.
This product contains high amounts of glutathione precursors and both laboratory and clinical trials have documented the crucial role of this bio-active protein concentrate in promoting high cellular glutathione levels allowing for support of an efficient immune response. The precursors found in Immunocal® stimulate the cells to produce glutathione inside your cells and thus boost the immune system.
Clinical References
- The 16th International Congress of Nutrition in Montreal, Canada conducted an open study using Immunocal with patients having Chronic Hepatitis B, and found significant improvement.
- In another study, an in-vitro study dealing with breast cancer, Immunocal® caused depletion and inhibition of proliferation in human breast cancer cells.
- In an in-vivo study with HIV patients, Immunocal was shown to lower viral count dramatically over a six-month period.
For more information on the benefits of glutathione (GSH), Dr. James F. Balch from “Prescriptions for Natural Healing” explains it very well in this Dr. Balch on Glutathione audio presentation.

So Are You in the Zone (Diet that is)?
October 8, 2009 by Stacy42 · 7 Comments
What is the Zone Diet (and some more tid-bits).
Did you know that the word ‘diet’ is actually a Greek word? YES! It means “way of life”. This diet give you the ability to control your genes. Huh? Okay, it will be explained. Because of this ability, you will feel your energy soar. Not only that, it eliminates your hunger and helps you to lose weight as well. You are the one that has the ultimate control over your wellness with the Zone Diet.
The main purpose for this diet is to maintain and balance out your hormones. It consists of low fat protein, low glycemic load carbs. These are carbs that are from fruits and vegetables. This diet helps to fight hunger and those cravings. It balances all of the essentials that your body needs. You basically consume in moderation carbohydrates, protein and then, of course, there are fats.
An even more in depth look is into what we need and what they mean. Insulin is something that our body uses to store hormones. storing too much is really bad for you, however, it is necessary to have some in your diet. There is another hormone that enables the body to release carbs and stabilizes blood sugar levels. This element is essential for mental and physical abilities. There is another hormone that controls the silent inflammation that is triggered by the insulin. The goal is to maintain and balance your hormones.
What makes People Chose Zone?
There may be more to it than merely losing weight. Some people may want to go on the diet so that they can maintain their health on a regular basis. There are a few good reasons why people chose to stay on this diet. There are positive reasons to keep to this diet because it balances many things including your mentality and fertility. It is in the hormones that seem to make our bodies function. Well, if that alone is not enough to convince you to become a Zone Dieter, maybe you can gain inspiration from famous people like Jennifer Aniston, Cindy Crawford, Tiger Woods, Renee Zellwenger and even Tom Cruise. They have all faithfully followed this trendy diet.
There is Always Going to be the Pros and the Cons in Any Diet.
A major con if that the Food and Drug Administration does not condone this diet. They are not for it because of the fact that the diet is high in protein and there is a lack of the nutrients that our bodies need. No to mention very few studies have been conducted on the long term effects of the diet. Because of the criticism from the dieters who like to eat just vegetables and vegan eaters who rely on only vegetables on a daily basis, the Zone diet can be supplemented with soy protein to accommodate our vegan friends.
As with any diet, you will have to actually take part in it to see whether or not it is the right diet for you. It is highly recommended that you consult with your doctor before trying any diet. Doctors know your body even better then you do. They will definitely know whether or not this is the right diet for you. As far as results are concerned, there is only one way that you will know for sure and that is to TRY IT for yourself!
There will always be critics but the ultimate test is what works for you. You will know this by trying the diet. Hey, if it worked for one of the fattest men in the world (who topped 1200 pounds), it may very well work for you as well. This man seems to be healthy but he cannot do normal activities because of his weight. He is on this diet and it seems to be working well for him. It is not always about appetite control but more about keeping your food cravings and hunger down to a bare minimum. Not all diets are for everyone but as it was mentioned earlier, there is no way of knowing until we try them for ourselves.
The master mind behind the diet, Dr. Sears, strives to work with each patient. He teamed up with Mexican doctors to aid in helping the obese patient. He has books written to help guide you. Each patient has his or her own individual needs and must being willing to try to lose weight and maintain it by following instructions. Reading about a diet will sometimes let us know whether or not it is for us as well.

Reward Your Horse in the Latter Years
October 1, 2009 by Stacy42 · 6 Comments
After years of competing, working or just riding with you, the time comes when your horse starts to slow down. Since they age 1 year to our every 3 years, aging occurs in your horse’s life much faster than in your own.
Your horse is counting on you to take care of him in his senior years as you did in the earlier ones. Senior horses have different needs than they did even 5 years earlier. By knowing these needs you can prevent problems and give your horse the retirement he deserves.
Unless there is a medical reason it is good for your horse to stay active. Although he might not be working, exercise is essential to keep limber, make use of their lungs and other body parts as well as having the joy of experiencing the world around them. Turning him out will also keep the weight gain low and his spirits high.
They aren’t able to do as well with extreme temperature changes. It is important to be sensitive to the conditions that your horse is in at this stage of their lives. It’s always a good idea to keep a blanket handy in the colder days especially if you live in a higher elevation or where there are cold seasons. In the same way be sure to provide at least one or two shady spots where your horse can escape from the direct sun.
Your horse’s body will go through various changes as your horse ages. This includes his stomach and digestive system. Feeding your horse accordingly will make him more comfortable and provide what he needs at this stage of his life. There are some great supplements in the market that make up for deficiencies in nutrient absorption of senior horses. A favorite is TAHITIAN NONI® Equine EssentialsTM. One of the things that it does is promotes proper feed digestion and nutrient absorption. Another great feature is it supports the equine immune system with superior antioxidant activity.
Have you ever noticed that many senior horses get moody and stress easier? My favorite feature of TAHITIAN NONI® Equine EssentialsTM is that it contains adaptogens to help relieve stress. They are much calmer and relaxed. TAHITIAN NONI® Equine Essentials FlexTM was formulated with horses who suffer from joint problems. It supports joint function but also includes MSM, glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate as well as the Omega 3 and 6 oils found in the TAHITIAN NONI® Equine EssentialsTM. It has given many a horse a new lease on life. In Australia this product is know as Tahitian Noni™ Equine Formula™.
If you take care of your horse and give it love and support it needs, your horse has the potential of living into his thirties and even forties.

Reduce Hypertension With Reishi Mushroom
June 2, 2009 by Stacy42 · 5 Comments
Reishi mushrooms has been shown to contain complex sugars that have anticancer and immune stimulating properties. For example, complex sugars known as beta-glucans have been shown in laboratory experiments to inhibit the growth and metastasis of cancer cells. When animals were fed beta-glucans, certain aspects of their immune system become more active. Limited data from clinical studies suggest Reishi mushroom can strengthen the immune responses in humans.
In addition, reishi mushrooms contain sterols that can act as precursors to hormones in the body, along with substances called triterpenes that may have blood pressure lowering and anti allergy (anti histamine) effects. Reishi mushrooms have also been shown to slow the process of blood clotting.
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is particularly beneficial for individuals with asthma and other respiratory complaints. “It has a healing effect on the lungs,” she says. “Reishi is good for respiratory strength and for coughing”. At least one population study confirms this claim. When more the 2000 Chinese with chronic bronchitis took reishi syrup during the 1970s, within two weeks, 60 to 90% felt better and reported an improved appetite, according to “Medicinal mushrooms,” by Christopher Hobbs, published in “s for Health, Jan/Feb 97.
For 4000 years, the Chinese and Japanese have used reishi mushroom as a medicine for liver disorders, hypertension, and arthritis. Through in vitro and human studies, today’s researchers have found that reishi has anti allergic, anti inflammatory, anti viral, anti bacterial, and antioxidant properties. In vitro experiments also indicate that reishi may help fight cancer tumors. In addition, a protein isolated from reishi may reduce the risk of transplant rejection.
The reishi mushroom is a purplish brown fungus with a long stalk, brown spores, and a fan-shaped cap with a shiny, varnish coated appearance. Reishi grows on decaying wood or tree stumps, preferring the Japanese plum tree but also found on oak. The mushroom is native to China, Japan, and North America but is cultivated throughout other Asian countries. Cultivation of reishi is a long, complicated process. The reishi grows in 6 colors, each thought to have different characteristics and known as: Aoshiba (blue reishi), Akashiba (red reishi), Kishiba (yellow reishi), Shiroshiba (white reishi), Kuroshiba (black reishi), and Murasakishiba (purple reishi).
Reishi has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more years for treating fatigue and to promote longevity. The Chinese name lingzhi means “herb of spiritual potency.” A Japanese name for the reishi is mannentake, meaning “10,000-year-old mushroom.” Reishi’s use is documented in the oldest Chinese medical text, which is more than 2,000 years old. Cultivation of reishi began in the 1980s. A survey conducted in Hong Kong found G. lucidum to be the third most common herbal preparation taken by preoperative surgical patients.
Reishi mushroom can be found in capsule or tablet forms at your local or internet health food store. Look for name brands like Solaray brand and Planetary Herbals to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase.

Support A Healthy Heart And Liver With Choline
April 19, 2009 by Stacy42 · 5 Comments
Choline, the newest official member of the B vitamin family, had its Adequate Intake levels (AIs) established for the first time by the National Academy of Sciences in 1998. Even though it has only recently been adopted into the official family of vitamins, choline has been the subject of nutritional investigations for almost 150 years.
Key research discoveries about choline came in the late 1930s, when scientists discovered that tissue from the pancreas contained a substance that could help prevent fatty build-up in the liver. This substance was named choline after the Greek word chole, which means bile. Since the 1930s, research has shown that choline is found not only in the pancreas and liver, but is also, in fact, a component of every human cell.
Choline is a vitamin like compound that is an essential part of the human diet as it is used by the body to produce acetylcholine. Without choline, acetylcholine cannot be produced and the body cannot function normally. Choline is also an extremely important structural element of cells, especially cell membranes, and is essential for the process of breaking down fat for energy.
When you run a race like the 5km, 10km or half-marathon the choline concentrations remain sufficient. It appears that your choline levels drop dramatically only when you run a marathon or exercise continuously for approximately two hours or more. Some exercise scientists believe that this drop in choline is behind the devastating fatigue which strikes near the end of a marathon – referred to, by many marathon runners, as the ‘Wall’. It is also good for the brain.
Choline has only recently been recognized as an essential nutrient. Choline B vitamin is part of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which plays a major role in the brain; for this reason, many studies have been designed to look at choline’s role in brain function.
Choline is widespread in the foods we eat. The average diet provides about 500 mg to 1,000 mg of choline per day. Lecithin, a fatty constituent in foods, is a major source of choline; it is comprised mostly of a type of choline called phosphatidylcholine (PC). Lecithin and PC have been studied separately as treatments for a variety of illnesses; supplementing with lecithin or choline works with Inositol to help energy levels, metabolism, the liver, kidneys, and heart function better.
Natural Choline is available in capsule, tablet, and bulk powder forms at your local or internet health food store. Look for name brands like Solaray~Solaray vitamins~Solaray brand~Solaray, Source Naturals, Natures Plus, and Natures way to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase.
