History of the Silk Kimono
September 18, 2009 by Stacy42 · 3 Comments
Although the kimono originated in China, they have been worn in Japan for hundreds of years, and their great beauty is attributable to 17th and 18th century Japanese designers.
Traditionally, the cloth and color combinations indicated the political and social standing of the wearer and kimono colors changed according to the time of year. These days, the kimono is no longer a purely traditional garment.
Traditionally, all girls in Japan had to learn to make their own clothes and sew. But sewing was easier than in the west. The girdle, haori and kimono, and even the long-hanging sleeves, had only parallel seams. The clothes were, in fact, taken apart for cleaning, and each piece, after being mildly starched, was stretched out on a board to dry, before being stitched back together.
There are many different kinds of kimono pattern: the long-sleeved, beautiful kinds worn by young girls or geisha, the formal kimono stamped with the wearer’s family emblem and worn on formal occasions; men’s kimonos and kimono for children. A young woman wears a kimono with long sleeves and an Obi, a broad brocade or silk band about twelve feet long and twelve inches wide. As she gets older, the kimonos become smaller and the colors richer and deeper while the obi is made narrower and worn deeper. In addition, haori, a short knee length kimono, is often worn too. These days, a kimono is usually only donned on special occasions and is primarily worn by women, but certain men also wear this garb. Both haori and kimono may be hung on a hard wood bar as wall decoration.
As an indulgence or ideal gift, kimono clothing is extremely versatile, and makes a welcome addition to any wardrobe.
Possibly the most popular color for a kimono is red, derived from safflower. The yukata has much in common with the kimono, except it is made of a lightweight cotton and is more casual.
Should You Use Grass Carp For Aquatic Plant Control?
September 14, 2009 by Stacy42 · 4 Comments
Mastering the aquatic plants in a pond, or in any body of water is quite important. Why you ask? Well, since for some reason or another, you’ve chosen that you do not desire it there. No matter if those plants have create a type of nuisance for swimming children, or have just clogged up the engine on a favorite boat, you wish them gone, and there’s many ways to do it.
Naturally you could use chemicals, plastic lining, freezing, manual pulling, or perhaps even dye, however these are fairly inconvenient, and there is no guarantee that your pond, or even the fish, would actually be anywhere near what it was following such an effort. So it’s about time to look into alternative means—techniques which won’t damage you OR your pond.
Around nineteen sixty-three, a new fish was placed in the U.S. ecological, and that fish was known as the Grass Carp. This fish was purposefully integrated into our ecosystem for the simple reason of eradicating aquatic plant life, and thus far it has done a great job. Within the US, A Grass Carp is commonly referred to as a White Amur, probably because the word Carp has negative interpretations here in the U.S., and the name “Amur” refers to the river that this fish comes from, the river which borders China and Russia.
The Grass Carp, is what’s known as an intrusive species, indicating that it will multiply and take over any ecosystem which it’s placed into (similar to humans), but fortunately science has come far, and though it took a lot of time, and lots of gene manipulation, sterilizing a Grass Carp finally became standard all over the world so that it’s integration doesn’t harm or eradicate the local ecology.
An additional detail to take into account, is that the Grass Carp does not eat everything, of course it enjoys plants, and will consume most of it, but just like humans, there are things which it prefers more than others. A couple of the things that the Grass Carp will enjoy, are:
Coontail
Spikerush
Smartweed
Bladderwort
Bulrush
Water hyssop
Eelgrass
There’s several additional grasses, and a quick trip to a library, a web query, or a consultation with an expert will immediately reveal the things a grass carp will consume.
When bought in large amounts, Grass Carp is fairly inexpensive, at about $10-20 for each fish, and that is perfectly reasonable when you consider how long it will last; surviving for about ten to eleven years.
In some states, you will need to get a license before you place Grass Carp in any sort of water, even if it is your water. To discover if this is required, speak with the game warden in your area, or simply check the regulations of your state, as that information is readily available to anyone who requires it.
Clearly, Grass Carp are a great alternative to using chemical compounds, or even lining the pond with a plastic cover, since not only are these great for ridding you of undesired plant life, you must additionally keep in mind that this is a symbiotic relationship, you give something that they desire, and in return they give a service to you, preventing you from needing to do it on your own. Overall, this is a good trade.

Reduce Hypertension With Reishi Mushroom
June 2, 2009 by Stacy42 · 5 Comments
Reishi mushrooms has been shown to contain complex sugars that have anticancer and immune stimulating properties. For example, complex sugars known as beta-glucans have been shown in laboratory experiments to inhibit the growth and metastasis of cancer cells. When animals were fed beta-glucans, certain aspects of their immune system become more active. Limited data from clinical studies suggest Reishi mushroom can strengthen the immune responses in humans.
In addition, reishi mushrooms contain sterols that can act as precursors to hormones in the body, along with substances called triterpenes that may have blood pressure lowering and anti allergy (anti histamine) effects. Reishi mushrooms have also been shown to slow the process of blood clotting.
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is particularly beneficial for individuals with asthma and other respiratory complaints. “It has a healing effect on the lungs,” she says. “Reishi is good for respiratory strength and for coughing”. At least one population study confirms this claim. When more the 2000 Chinese with chronic bronchitis took reishi syrup during the 1970s, within two weeks, 60 to 90% felt better and reported an improved appetite, according to “Medicinal mushrooms,” by Christopher Hobbs, published in “s for Health, Jan/Feb 97.
For 4000 years, the Chinese and Japanese have used reishi mushroom as a medicine for liver disorders, hypertension, and arthritis. Through in vitro and human studies, today’s researchers have found that reishi has anti allergic, anti inflammatory, anti viral, anti bacterial, and antioxidant properties. In vitro experiments also indicate that reishi may help fight cancer tumors. In addition, a protein isolated from reishi may reduce the risk of transplant rejection.
The reishi mushroom is a purplish brown fungus with a long stalk, brown spores, and a fan-shaped cap with a shiny, varnish coated appearance. Reishi grows on decaying wood or tree stumps, preferring the Japanese plum tree but also found on oak. The mushroom is native to China, Japan, and North America but is cultivated throughout other Asian countries. Cultivation of reishi is a long, complicated process. The reishi grows in 6 colors, each thought to have different characteristics and known as: Aoshiba (blue reishi), Akashiba (red reishi), Kishiba (yellow reishi), Shiroshiba (white reishi), Kuroshiba (black reishi), and Murasakishiba (purple reishi).
Reishi has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more years for treating fatigue and to promote longevity. The Chinese name lingzhi means “herb of spiritual potency.” A Japanese name for the reishi is mannentake, meaning “10,000-year-old mushroom.” Reishi’s use is documented in the oldest Chinese medical text, which is more than 2,000 years old. Cultivation of reishi began in the 1980s. A survey conducted in Hong Kong found G. lucidum to be the third most common herbal preparation taken by preoperative surgical patients.
Reishi mushroom can be found in capsule or tablet forms at your local or internet health food store. Look for name brands like Solaray brand and Planetary Herbals to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase.

Reading About Expensive ATVS
April 15, 2009 by Stacy42 · 3 Comments
Most name brand ATVs are sold in dealerships only. This is because before the internet, the ATV companies set up dealer territories. Just like a Special Edition ATV. It seems that the only websites that are selling online are ones that sell Chinese product.
If you don’t understand how to assemble the remaining product then you will want to take it or have it shipped directly to a professional for assembly. Don’t assume that because you know how to change your oil, you will be able to assemble an ATV out of the crate, unless you have very good instructions. With the popularity of ATVs growing, it is no wonder that the prices of branded ATVs could hit as high as tens of thousands, but do you really have to pay such steep prices for family recreation fun? The answer is “No” – ATVs do not have to be an expensive family sports, if you know the right places to get good quality ATVs at bargain prices. If you and your family members have been itching to get your hands on good ATVs with reasonable prices and see for yourself what you can get from them at wholesale prices.
All you need to do is just give them a call or visit them at their websites to see what ATV models and warranty for their machines that they have to offer. And if you are buying for the whole family, every cent counts.A 2007 Polaris Ranger 700 XP 700XP ATV is nice. It would be a great idea if you sit down with your family members and get their thoughts all written down so that it would make your search for an ATV wholesaler a lot easier, because with the list, you would be able to gauge if the ATV wholesaler that you are dealing with is able to meet the needs of you and your family members.
Just because you have had cheap remote or something made of plastic with the logo “made in China” stamped on it, doesn’t mean that all products that come out of China are junk. The big difference is what place in China made the product. You see things like this all the time if you do a Google search for ATVs. To turn a reasonable profit on each unit after advertising, they must have only paid $50 for each unit. There are many that are privately owned and hire highly skilled laborers to assemble the products.
What is Tai Chi? A quick guide from Stratford Tai Chi
March 22, 2009 by Stacy42 · 5 Comments
The exact origins of Tai Chi are hard to tie down. There are many myths about its origins. One of those says that Taoist monk Chang San-feng was disturbed by the sounds of a snake and a crane fighting in his courtyard. He then built a style based around their movements.
Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese form of movement that coordinates your body and focuses on the cultivation of internal energy. It’s aim is to harmonize the mind, body and spirit hence, promoting both metal and physical well being through relaxation. It is often described as a type of meditation that combines deep breathing and movements that exact structual alignment. Correct practice appears rhythmical, effortless and in continuous flow and it can generate surprising power almost at odds with its gentle movements.
People who regularly practice Tai Chi become revitalized, relaxed, tolerant, stronger and healthier. Tai Chi is suitable for all ages and sexes because it does not rely on strength, force or speeds. It brings benefits in many areas.
Tai chi is derived from Chinese health and longevity practices, which were merged with a comprehensive system of self defence. In the past, much of Tai Chi was kept secret, but very gradually, knowledge of the art spread throughout China. Now at the start and end of every day in villages, towns, and cities all over Chinese Asia, people can be seen practicing the slow, graceful movements of tai chi in courtyards, squares and parks.
Tai chi came to the West during the 20th century largely due to the cultural revolution when many masters fled the country. Today, tai chi is found in almost all countries, and a huge number of people practice it regularly.
It requires a high degree of concentration and mental focus. The breathing is natural, sometimes involving deep breathing, and is carefully synchronised to your movements.
Tai Chi consists of soft, relaxed (usually) slow movements and is recognised as being good for stress, balance, blood pressure and general health. It is one of the one of the Chinese Internal martial arts (neijia). The others being Hsing-I, Ba Gua Zhang and Liuhebafa(Six Harmonies, 8 Methods).
Tai Chi appeals to a wide range of people and age ranges, (teens and 20′s up to 80′s & 90′s) but it is not common for the art to be taught to children as the training can be slow for their tastes. There are a number of forms specifically targetted at the over 50′s and health problems such as Arthritis.

I-20 Visas

How to study in the United States as a Foreign Student
So you want to study at a university in the United States, but you are a citizen of another country. Students from countries such as Korea, Japan, China, India, and others regularly study in the United States by obtaining a visa from a school that is authorized to issue I-20 visas. I-20 visas are what allow foreign students to study in the United States legally.
One question to consider early on is whether you wish to apply to a United States university directly from the high school in your country, or whether you wish to attend a college preparatory (high school) in the United States. A major benefit of attending college prep in the United States is that they often already have built strong relationships with the university you wish to attend. For example, the University of California system, in many cases, has already pre-approved transferrable courses at high schools accredited by WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges). Such high schools are already familiar with the admission requirements of various universities, as well.
When looking at high schools in the United States, you should make sure that their affiliations connect them with top tier universities. But more importantly, you need to make sure that the high school you are considering is authorized to issue I-20 visas to foreign students.
Becoming authorized to issue I-20 visas to foreign students is a process managed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It requires a lengthy review of the school petitioning for approval, so be sure the school you are considering has already obtained this approval before spending much time on their application process.
Spending an extra four years at a United States private college prep school, can pay off big time when it comes to getting into top Universities.
Finding the Best Nintendo Wii Price Today
February 23, 2009 by Stacy42 · 6 Comments
Nintendo Wii prices don’t really seem to fluctuate. They change depending on if they are in a bundle package or if they are used. Otherwise expect to pay the full Nintendo Wii price. Great places to find a Wii are your local Best Buy, Target, Walmart and Toys R Us. You can simply call these stores and find out if they have any special such as any coupons towards the purchase or a free game with a Wii purchase. If you do want to purchase in a bundle then look at those prices as well. Buying used will give you many more options.
Finding the best Nintendo Wii price today isn’t as easy as one might think. There are lots of packages you can purchase that includes a set of games, the Wii and a controller that really give you the best deal but may not be what you are looking for. Trying the suspect Wii vendors may come with better warranties, but perhaps the best deal might be from your local craigslist?
When deciding to purchase a Wii one must also figure out whether they will need an extra controller or any particular games. Especially during the holiday season Best Buy, Sam’s Club, Target and even Walmart will have bundle deals with an extra controller and two or three games for a price that doesn’t even sound like the down-payment on a car. Now if you were thinking that you can find a friend who works at one of these stores to buy the game console for you I’m going to disappoint you by telling you that these stores don’t give any discount for the game consoles to their employees. You can tear up that Best Buy application.
The cost of the Wii is $250 plus taxes. Or you can get a bundle that comes with 2 remotes and 3 games for about $550. It really just depends if you are planning on using the games offered in the bundle. Call your local Target, Walmart, Toys R Us, and Circuit City in the mornings to see if they even have the Wii in and to find out the Wii prices. Sometimes they are difficult to locate. The best thing about purchasing the Wii at Best Buy is that they offer a warranty plan on their electronics that extends past the warranty that Nintendo offers.
Now I know that some people find offense to purchasing items online but if you aren’t one of those people then great! You can purchase the Nintendo Wii through any trusted 3rd party seller directly at Amazon or EBay. Sometimes you might even be able to purchase one at less than the original store price. But I would be weary of used consoles. If something does happen then you are out of luck and if it is delivered and it is broken it may be difficult to get a refund from a seller in China. Sometimes you can find the Wii at game stores as well.
If you do want it for less consider signing up for a Best Buy card and getting the discount they offer you once you open the account. This may be the cheapest new route for Wii prices. If you don’t mind a used Wii then go out to the pawn shop or look in the paper. This way you can actually see if the console works before purchasing it. Used systems are also sold at EBgames or Gamestop. Used consoles would also be on craigslist. Wii prices are usually still high because it is a popular console. If you go to the game store you can even sell your old console or games and use it as credit towards the new Nintendo Wii. Good luck in your search for the best Wii price.
