Personally, I have been working with Computers for a couple of decades now and I like to usually ask the person a few questions…
1.) What are they using it for? Example…Data processing, Internet surfing, Burning data and music/movies. Okay, nowadays all laptop can do.
2.) How intense are you going to be using this laptop? Meaning are you going to be running some intense gaming, setting it as a server to run your home entertainment or your network. With these types of situation I would not recommend any of those you mention.
but if it's option 1 in my opinion I would chose the first one you mention above.

The white/red RCA cables are two channel, meaning they won't pass more than stereo sound. If you want more than two channels you need either HDMI or optical connectivity. Or you can instruct your receiver to matrix two-channel audio into all speakers, if it has this capability. So, in short, you need a new receiver if you want surround sound out of your PS3.
