Pond Care

May 30, 2009 by Stacy42

Algae growth can appear as “green water” blooms, filamentous algae on plants, floating algae mats and algae growth as waterfalls.

Pond owners’ number one problem has been pond algae of various types. Previously all algaecides were non-selective and killed or damaged most plants in the pond along with the algae. Pondcare Algaefix is our number 1 seller by far. It effectively controls many types of green or green water algae, string or hair algae and blanketweed in ponds that contain live plants. Controls existing algae and helps resolve additional algae blooms. Keeps ornamental ponds and water gardens clean & clear.

* Pondcare Algaefix can be used in ponds with plants! It is not a bacterial product but an EPA registered herbicide control.Pondcare Algaefix works in temepratures above 32 degrees F.

* Used as directed, Algaefix is safe for all fish and wildlife including birds or other animals that might drink from the pond.

* Recomended for routine use as a preventative or

can be used to treat ponds that already have an algae problem.

If high levels of algae exist, be prepared to siphon out dead filamentous algae (see Ultivac ). It is also highly recommended that you combine Pondcare Algaefix with EcoFix to quickly break down the accumulated dead algae and debris that results from algae die-off. High quantities of dead algae can be damaging if not removed and broken down quickly to prevent toxic ammonia build-up.

If you clear the algae, the pond will be great again for swimming and playing. Life jackets are just the thing for summer time fun and safety.

I got one of those long pointy brushes used for cleaning dryer vents and I just twirled the stuff up on that. It scraped right off into a bucket and went in the compost. But I have not had that problem since I add air ariators to the ponds. My 125 gal pond has one air stone about 3 inches in diamitor and the 2500 gal pond has 11 running off one large air pump. The added air has kept both my ponds clear all year round since I added them. Check out drsfosterandsmith.com they have excellant pond stuff and stuff for all your critters.
