Flowers in the Caribbean

April 30, 2009 by

I am deeply amazed by the vast variety of Caribbean’s flora. I’ve recently visited Akumal, a small town in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico a 70 minute drive from Cancun and I was amazed by the numerous colors and variety of its landscape.

Everywhere I looked I saw different colors, shapes, sizes, types and species of tropical flora and fauna . Its well known that in the ecuator there are no seasons, still I was amazed to experience its enticing fenomenon, literally the whole year round the flowers bloomed and the colors arise.

People often come to Riviera Maya for the holidays, depending where you stay the flora you get. If you stay at Cancun you’ll be surrounded by palm trees, if you go to Puerto you’ll be surrounded by Bugambilia, if you stay at Akumal you’ll have jazmin all over but if you stay at Tulum you’ll mostly have wild purple and yellow flowers. Quintana Roo is well known by its honey, its different types of flowers convey in order to let bees be more creative and make a wide variety of honey.

I would recommend to stay at Akumal in a villa called Casa Maravilla, its location is very convenient since it offers the best of Riviera Maya, the powdery sandy beach and lush tropical gardens, plus it’s a perfect bird spotting location. This villa is very close to both Akumal and Puerto, it has the perfect beach spot and you can practice many aquatic activities with no need for moving around.

They should go to Tulum and see the Mayan Ruins. Chichen Itza.

Another good place to go is Xcaret. It's a ecological park. It's a great way to spend the day.

We loved taking the ferry over to Isla Mujeres. We rented a golf cart and toured the island. Ended up at Norte beach and went for a swim and had something to eat. Did a little shopping. It was fun.

    Wishing them a great time)

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says it’s unclear how much oil is leaking into the Gulf of Mexico, but the government is prepared to handle a potentially “catastrophic event.” Obama said Friday that no one knows exactly how much oil is leaking because human inspectors cannot reach the mile-deep well head.
